Helping Communities Near and Far

House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham actively supports and helps the local community through its Social Ministry Committee. Throughout the year, the church members provide dinner boxes for Wellspring Multi-Service Center, several donation drives and lunch preparations for Father Bill’s programs for the homeless, refreshments for South Shore Habitat housing projects, and collections for the Weymouth and Hingham Food Pantries. The church also assists young teen mothers from Ascentria’s Ruth House with starting over in new apartments with furniture and basic needs for setting up a new home with gift cards. The In Stitches group of crafting ladies have created many knitted items including hats, scarves, and cowls for merchant marines at sea.

Through the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the church has participated in many fundraisers to help people around the world by providing lanterns, water filters, garden supplies, baby chicks, and honey bees. All of these are valuable to worldwide communities that struggle with basic needs. As evidenced by these activities, House of Prayer clearly lives out its mission to support local and worldwide communities.
