Mission Statement
We feel called by God . . .
to share and spread Christ’s message of love,
to nurture a vigorous and compassionate church family, open to all.
to provide meaningful worship and Christian education,
and to actively reach out to help and serve others.
A glimpse of House of Prayer’s history . . .
We recently celebrated 50 years of mission and ministry. When we marked this milestone in worship, Cheryl Larson Morse (Pastor Developer Gordon Larson’s wife) recalled how the founding members first met for worship at the Hingham Community Center, a shared space. A carpenter in the congregation had built the altar which would also serve as storage for hymnals and worship items. When everyone arrived for that first worship service, however, the varnish on the altar wasn’t dry yet, so all the women went home, brought back their hair dryers, and finished drying the varnish in time for worship.
